Energy industry - an industry in upheaval
Energy transition, nuclear and coal phase-out, expansion of renewable energies, digitalisation and security of supply are just a few buzzwords to describe the current multi-layered challenges for the coming years.
Energy supply and distribution are of enormous importance for the functioning of our society and economy. In times of climate change, this becomes particularly clear: due to the coal phase-out, CO2 pricing and the associated switch to renewable energies, the pressure on the industry is increasing - because even in times of transformation, the energy supply in Germany has to continue to be guaranteed..
ISO management systems support you on your way and help to keep everything in view. They show your stakeholders that you have not only perceived the challenges of today, but are actively tackling them.
GUTcert looks after a large number of well-known utilities and corporations, but also small and medium-sized regional municipal utilities and companies from the renewable energy sector, and will be happy to accompany you on your way to certification.

The provision and transmission of energy is associated with considerable resource consumption on the part of energy supply companies (EVU). With an energy management system according to ISO 50001, savings potentials can be systematically identified and technical systems can be optimised in a targeted manner. In addition, a certified system protects your company against the particularly complex legislation in this area, such as the EDL-G.
As an accredited certification body with a wide range of approvals, we issue certificates that not only fulfill the standard requirements, but also ensure recognition by state authorities. For example, state benefits or tax refunds, such as the Special Compensation Scheme (BesAR) under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and the successor regulation to the Peak Compensation Scheme under the SpaEfV, are linked to the operation of an EnMS in accordance with ISO 50001, environmental management in accordance with EMAS or, for SMEs, to an alternative system.

In the energy supply industry, the pressure for more environmental awareness is growing: resource efficiency and climate compatibility are the focus of public attention. Environmental management systems according to ISO 14001 or EMAS are suitable for tackling the multifaceted challenges of climate change. Both systems help you to minimise environmental impacts, optimise your environmental performance and meet the complex legal requirements.
With the environmental statement to be published under EMAS, you communicate your commitment to the outside world and therefore strengthen the trust of your stakeholders.
Both management systems are a good basis if you want to establish a genuine climate management system.
By the way, for organisations involved in municipalities, it is worth taking a look at the current directive on the promotion of climate protection projects in the municipal environment "Municipal Directive". The introduction of EMAS can also be funded!
One of the greatest challenges facing the energy supply sector is to make its own business operations climate-friendly. The goal of climate neutrality is linked to considerable effort as well as technical and technological innovations andinvestments. For example to reduce energy consumption, to enable the transition to renewable energy sources and to compensate for unavoidable emissions.
Having a functioning climate strategy in your own organisation is therefore essential and based on a solid greenhouse gas balance. The majority of the emissions generated in the industry can be traced back to the company's own production and direct suppliers.
The Corporate Carbon Footprint serves as a management tool to identify the main CO2 emissions, determine mitigation measures, implement cost reduction plans and build trust

If your company participates in European emissions trading, GUTcert can support you with its many years of experience. As one of the leading verification bodies in emissions trading with a full industry accreditation at DAkkS, we verify emissions reports of all industries with stationary installations.
Renewable energies are now an important factor in the ongoing transformation of the German energy concept. The share of renewable energies in electricity consumption is growing steadily: from around six percent in 2000 to around 46 percent in 2020 - with the long-term goal eliminating the dependency on fossil energy sources by using only renewable energy sources.
For producers of renewable energies, the requirements for expert reports and other testing services are becoming more and more comprehensive. GUTcert helps through the jungle - with many years of experience in verification and certification of eligibility requirements according to the EEG, especially in the biogas sector.
Supply and demand for green electricity are also growing steadily. For marketers and consumers, it is becoming increasingly difficult to verify the quality and credibility of the offers.
The shortage of skilled workers and not least the pandemic have shown that dealing with the health of employees is essential for the smooth operation of a company. In this context, mental health is also increasingly coming into focus alongside physical health.
An ISO 45001-certified occupational safety and health management system (SGA-MS) demonstrates a high level of awareness of occupational safety and health. The avoidance of employee absences is essential for a smooth operation in the company success. At the same time, the integration into already existing management systems is easily possible due to the High Level Structure. In addition, compliance with the legal framework alone covers about 80% of the requirements: the internal effort is therefore manageable.
As a critical infrastructure that should also function as smoothly as possible in the event of disasters, the energy industry is subject to special regulations regarding information security. So, based on the Ordinance on the Designation of Critical Infrastructures under the BSI Act (BSI Critical Infrastructure Ordinance - BSI-KritisV), the obligation to be certified in accordance withISO/IEC 27001 plus the requirements from the IT security catalogue pursuant to Section 11 (1a) of the Energy Industry Act has already applied to electricity and gas network operators since 2017. For electricity generators or electricity storage facilities with an electrical connected load of more than 420 MW and gas storage facilities that record 5,190 GWH/year of withdrawn work (electricity and/or gas), the requirements of the IT security catalogue pursuant to Section 11 (1b) of the Energy Industry Act became mandatory in 2021. An extension of the obligation to smaller plants is likely.
However, certification according to ISO/IEC 27001 can also be useful for companies that do not fall under the certification obligation, for example, to systematically protect sensitive information from unauthorised access or destruction and therefore to build and maintain trust with both customers and partners.
The Federal Ordinance on Installations for Handling Substances Hazardous to Water (AwSV) came into force on 1 August 2017 and, in addition to various administrative regulations, leaflets and manuals, replaces the previously applicable state ordinances on installations for handling substances hazardous to water and specialised companies (AwSV).

As a network operator, you are responsible for the efficient design and operation of huge network areas. By certifying your asset management system according to ISO 55001:2014, you show your stakeholders that you have a functioning concept for the systematic management of your fixed and current assets and therefore not only reduce risks but also increase the reputation and value of your company.
The basic strategic asset management plan identifies potential problems with your assets at an early stage and links business, legal and technical concerns regarding your assets.
As a one-stop agency, we offer you combined audits from a single source. The integration of different management systems not only brings cost benefits, but also organisational simplifications. On the one hand, an integrated system approach minimises the overall effort required to set up and maintain your management system; on the other hand, you also benefit from price advantages of up to 50% compared to handling the individual procedures separately during certification. Reduce the time required to a single on-site audit, the duration of which is significantly shorter than the sum of the individual audits.
We have extensive experience with the combinations of the common management systems and prepare a smooth process for you, from the preparation of the offer to the issuing of the certificate - with only one personal contact person.
As a member of the internationally represented AFNOR Group, GUTcert offers certifications worldwide - also combined.
