RS - Responsible Steel™
The first comprehensive sustainability standard for the steel industry
Steel is the most widely used material worldwide. In terms of turnover, the steel industry is ten times larger than the aluminium industry, 7 ½ times larger than the copper industry and four times larger than the cement industry. Steel production is linked to many ethical, environmental and social aspects along the value chain - but so far there have been no standardised guidelines for their inclusion in corporate activities.
ResponsibleSteel, a not-for-profit organisation, has developed the first globally uniform sustainability standard for the steel industry. Various stakeholders have been involved in the development of the RS - Standard, including companies from all parts of the steel supply chain, civil society groups, associations, and other organisations with the goal to promote a sustainable steel industry.
Buyers of steel products increasingly demand goods that are designed and manufactured in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner - from the extraction of the raw materials to recyclability of final products.
