Certification for sustainable palm oil according to the RSPO Supply Chain Standard
In recent years Palm oil has become the most important plant oil in the world. Almost every other product in the supermarket contains this natural resource. On the other hand, palm oil, like no other plant based product, is continuously criticized. To meet global demand, tropical rainforest areas are being cleared, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia - with considerable consequences.
Against this background, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil was founded by the WWF in 2004 to establish and promote minimum ecological, economic and social standards for the cultivation of oil palms. RSPO certification stands for the use of palm oil from a sustainable economy along the entire supply chain and is often an integral part of companies' CSR strategies in food and feed production, oleochemistry and pharmaceuticals.
RSPO certification is based on minimum criteria defined by the WWF and RSPO and enables the certification of "sustainable palm oil". Starting with the certification of the palm oil plantation according to RSPO P&C (Principle & Criteria), certification according to RSPO SCC (Supply Chain Certification) will be continued for every following link in the value chain. The further processing and refinement of products using palm oil or palm kernel oil is also covered by RSPO supply chain certification.
The various supply chain models, identity assurance, segregation and mass balance are subject to different requirements for the traceability of the palm oil used.
With RSPO certification for sustainable palm oil, you are working to ensure that even more is done on the plantations to support the conservation of nature and human rights than is legally required. With consumers becoming increasingly aware of the sustainability of products, your company also benefits from RSPO certification in corporate communication.
