In recent years, palm oil has become the world‘s most important vegetable oil – nearly half of all supermarket products now contain this inexpensive raw material. However, perhaps more than any other crop, it has repeatedly come under criticism. To meet the high global demand, areas of tropical rainforest – particulary in Indonesia and Malaysia – are being cleared, with far-reaching consequences for the region.
Against this backdrop, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was established by WWF in 2004 to define and promote minimum environmental, economic and social standards for the cultivation of palm oil. Certification of sustainable palm oil can be based on these criteria. The process begins with certification of the plantation according to the RSPO Principles & Criteria (P&C) and continues with RSPO SCC (Supply Chain Certification) for each subsequent actor in the supply chain.
Responsibilities of an RSPO Representative
RSPO Representatives are responsible for the practical implementation of the requirements as well as all organisational and administrative duties relating to day-to-day operations To do so, they need solid expertise in the RSPO standard – knowledge that is provided in this seminar. The course is also an important prerequisite for working as an RSPO Supply Chain Auditor, as it is recognized within the RSPO system.
Contents
An e-learning module on the RSPO SCC system requirements, including a quiz, is available to help you prepare for the course. Passing the online test is mandatory for certification as an RSPO Auditor. For certification as an RSPO Representative, the test is optional.
